What we do
smallsolutions is a social enterprise organization providing integrated renewable energy and human development solutions to energy disadvantaged people. We believe that access to modern, affordable energy services is a fundamental human right and a prerequisite for sustainable development.

Background

Approximately 1.6 billion people in the world live without access to electricity and modern energy services. In rural and urban areas of East Africa, approximately 80% of the population or over 90 million people earn less than $3 per day and spend up to 50% of this income on energy for basic household lighting and cooking needs.

Mission
Our mission is to provide affordable, appropriate and reliable renewable energy technologies and energy efficient methods to the rural and peri-urban populations of East Africa at the grassroots level. In doing so, we strive to serve as a catalyst to empower people to help themselves bring about positive transformation in development.

Approach
Our activities focus on three main areas:

- introduce affordable renewable energy solutions and energy efficient methods
- community mobilization, capacity building and human development
- technology transfer and support to community projects and entrepreneurs
